Drought

Today I really tried to water the roots dangling in the relationship. Dried and withered, I soaked them in laughter, conversations, and kindness. But the immersion didn’t work. Every time I thought there was a moment of toasting, it all comes back to them. What other people had to say was drowned as they pulled the spotlight back to them. No one else can be successful because they did something better. They were more interested in telling/showing how/why they are so fabulous.

But we’re not fabulous. While we the family should be the veins of life, planted deeply and growing sturdy we are alas not deep enough in the world of them. And so the roots continue to shrivel into a world without them.
